🐥We wanted to de-bloat a little bit before coming out today, so we ran early in the morning.. JK: But turns out bloating wasn’t the issue..maybe because we’re older now? We can’t depuff as quickly~

JK: i wanted to thank the ARMY that prepared so many things for us - like the bus, multiple (mumbles?IDK but i think like the banners, etc.) and I wanted to bring this up in front of the reports to thank ARMY

JK: the thing i wanted to say the most was that over the last year and a half - we couldn’t do much to reach back out to you but that you waited for us - is really special/we’re thankful and we’re eagerly looking forward to the day we can return the love with our work

🐥simply put - when we were enlisting, I had a really hard time in the beginning. JK was fine but for me - when we had to be at the training facility the first five weeks, I was basically struggling 24/7. Struggling as I ate, struggling before I slept, etc. at that time Jung Kookie was such a strength/relief for me - checking in/saying things like “hyung ..it’s already been a day! Two days now… time goes by so quickly right?” but then a few weeks later, things turned around and JK was having a hard time.. So I’d go to him and be like “hey.. It’s already been a whole day~”

CRIES FOR 65MILLIONYEARS
🐥disproportionate to how anxious we were about serving - like the people there were SO great to us - we were worried about how they’d be about the hierarchical stuff
HIERARCHY is one of the most complex and beautiful real-time woven social tapestries in Korean culture** AT ITS BEST, it literally bakes every new person met into this sort of family - who’s going to be responsible for who? Many eastern cultures prioritize community values > the individual. Koreans, especially, truly become like a sort of family in that sense. AT ITS WORST - it’s just the hierarchy/legalism without the love/regard/responsibility/earned respect and it turns ugly real fast. That said, IN THE MILITARY - these are all intensified either way (mostly for the better~) so they were likely worried because not only are they celebrities (that may be viewed by the general public as entitled or spoiled or out of touch with reality) but also because they were much older than the “normal” age of men who serve. So it makes sense that they just had a lot of fears from their uncertainties.
🐥But actually everyone was just so respectful, regardless of rank - deeply hardworking, and so in that sense - we spent the time meaningfully
JK: are there lots of things you learned? Like even if you didn’t realize?
🐥i had really meaningful times, I studied a lot, and I always will remember the folks serving/working alongside us

??? = TBH i was stuck at like 14:15-17 for a long time because I could not figure out what he was saying.. Was looking up whether he was saying an idiom or phrase I was unfamiliar with.. Or if he was just mumbling something I do recognize.. I’m still not 100% sure what he meant to say but it might be either:
“Ooh shoot since we don’t have to end everything with 요 (-yo), we keep dragging our sentences now~” OR
“Ooh shoot since we don’t quite know how to express something???, we keep dragging our sentences now~”
My clue for it being A* is because the next thing he says is “맞습니다.. 맞아요”? If this is the case, he might be referring to the fact that they have to speak/answer each other in formal Korean/military speak on base so now that it’s not required~ it feels a bit awkward so they’re stretching out their sentences…? But if it’s B** - it might mean they’re just filling the silence by stretching out their sentences because they don’t quite know how to express themselves right now. Ok back to them~

🐥…it was a hard time guys. Time moves SO slowly. Each week felt like a month. The fact that the people there were really awesome and the fact that time passed slowly, are two entirely separate narratives. The time we did spend, we spent well. But it did NOT go by fast enough.

I FIND IT ENDLESSLY ENDEARING that our flirtypants boba JK is so so so so shy right now and that Jimin, although he probably feels just as out of his element as JK does, is a safe space for JK to stare at and blink at - ever reassuring our lil bunn that it’s okay~ and trying to keep the conversation cadence moving without forcing it~ I loveee Jimin’s sweet heart and emotional intelligence. I loveeee JK for being a tiny bubble with eyes.

🐥yea.. You know what it is - the FOOD tray was the issue. It’s so big that I ate way more than I normally do cuz all of the food that’s loaded on to it
food is served like cafeteria-style on a tray, so it’s likely portioned out by someone else
🐥like so many carbs, a HEAP of rice, the soup has carbs (dduk or sujebi)... so when JK was serving in the kitchen [esp during his first two ranks] all the guys wanted to eat at the cafeteria (implying JK’s food/cooking was better) than the lil convenient store nearby I THINK but towards the end.. After the sergeant ranking - his resolve grew dimmer??

🐥I think in our time.. We had a lot of memorable *낭만적인 experiences - we bonded a lot with our group through training over things like.. not being able to shower for a week, eating outside.. Getting sick. Getting a stomach bug

I didn’t see the beehive at first and then i saw it and was like o.O what is this and grabbed it and it was a beehive (=_=”) …what’s more is - inside the self-propelled howitzer, it’s not very …clean. But for some reason I was able to sleep when I slept in there - and if jungkook would make food - we’d take it and it was called 봉지밥 (bag rice - essentially bibimbap in a bag, and you mix the ingredients by mushing the ingredients around in the bag, and then when you’re ready, you can cut a corner of the bag and like … pipe or squeeze the food into your mouth - a known korean military snack/food)
KOREANS use this word *낭만 nangman / 낭만적인 nangmanjuggeen a lot to describe like romantic moments - romantic not in the sexy love way but in the romanticism way (wistful, memorable, dreamy, instantly nostalgic types of moments)

So to go from like that to physical training - is really not easy~ and to be completely honest a HUGE part of me did not want to go =.= like of course I know I have to yes for sure - but of COURSE there’s a part of me that also kinda didn’t want to go - but i did give it my absolute ALL while I was there. I’d really appreciate if you show appreciation/respect [presumably when you run into folks who have/are serving]

OK HERE’S THE THING. KOREAN BEAUTY STANDARDS ARE ASS. YES - do not get me started - I mean even for just Korean children - it’s such a mess. If you’re IN the spotlight as some kind of celebrity, it’s 10000X worse. THAT SAID, I’d like for you to hear their posture here is not necessarily WAHH I NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT CUZ I’M SO FAT T_T It’s more about the efforts they exerted (or didn’t) towards improving their fitness/physical shape.. I KNOW - these things (public opinion, cultural beauty standards, personal opinion) are not mutually exclusive. No. But they are ALSO not one in the same. On days I feel pretty - no matter what others say, no matter what trends are trending - I truly feel unstoppable. On days I feel ugly - no matter what others compliment/etc - still have no bearing on the fact that I feeeeeel unlike myself/ugly and it doesn’t hit quite the same. So yes - there is MUCH to be improved re: Korean beauty standards for sure but I would not interpret their comments as vain or image-obsessed or anything like that. They want to get healthier, more fit, yes that my include improving their skin/muscle/etc. Lowkey - if you want to spam them nice things, here’s 1 thing you can always say~ 딱 그대로가 멋있어요 = you’re awesome/cool JUST/exactly as you are right now
JK: once we enlisted - like the two of us were the only ones that KEPT talking - everyone was pretty stoic and composed and we were both SO nervous we just kept chatting~
🐥and there was this guy (mumbles names w/ JK IDK) who really cared for us/me well~ he was only like 2 years older but he really felt like a hyung.. Or is it more like a dad?? When i first went in it was more like dad - but by the time I left, he felt like a hyung. Can I share a story about us?
