As it seems I have a burst of baby ARMY subscribers, I'll be using the following abbreviations to refer to the members: RM (Kim Namjoon), Jin (Kim Seokjin aka princess hamster aka mat hyung), SUGA (Min Yoongi, Agust D aka sugiball aka sugicakes aka kitty), hobi (j-hope, Jung Hoseok), Jm (Park Jimin), V (Kim Taehyung), JK (Jeon Jung Kook aka kookooball aka boba)

jakldf;gj;alkdfj less than 1 minute in and they're already making my life so complicated but here we go! they're going to spend the next few minutes discussing the 'Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches' system, more commonly known as the Chinese zodiac - Koreans use this system rooted in Chinese cosmology - and the seriousness with which it's treated varies, just as in America - some people take astrology super seriously and some others take it like reading a fortune cookie and everything in between..
RM mumbles something while 'counting' on his fingers and it's a Korean pneumonic to remember the Chinese characters for the 12 zodiac symbols
the part you hear him saying most clearly, and other members also chime in to recite, is the 2nd third of this list - sounds like "jin sah oh mee" (dragon/snake/horse/sheep)
V, off screen, starts to 'rap' this pneumonic and then start singing an old cartoon theme song.. because.. of course he does.
Now if you really wanna get crazy with this, everyone go google your "chinese zodiac and element + your birth year" and you can know what that "means" for your birth year

(i think they're talking specifically about "official activities" with regard to performances singing/rapping/dancing - because they've all had a lot on their plate with their personal activities, individual ambassador roles/projects/appearances, etc. for sure but for everyone other than Jin/j-hope, they haven't performed /needed to perform in quite a while and it's been a long time since they've had an end-of-year holiday season (outside of the military) that wasn't tied up with all sorts of performances
JK: maybe because we haven't done like 'official activities' much this year?
SUGA: i mean coming to your house just now.. there's like no people outside..

Please look at everyone's facial expressions please - minus j-hope who has fallen off the side of the frame to be a tomato. In Korea, "young 30" "young 40" is used to describe people in their 30s and 40s that are still in their prime but mostly used in humorous contexts - like 'no i'm still in my prime!' 'no you're not old, you're still in your prime - you're in your young 30s era/young 40s era!' vibe
but because all his bingbong dongsengs troll him about his age all the livelong days - Jin's age constantly changes from early 30s to mid 30s to 40s to 50s ..even to 70s.. all in the span of a few minutes.. as per usual loll

Also, I've seen a lot of mistranslated clips that ALWAYS assume every mutterance with a "shhh" sound is someone (not even just BTS) trying to say "shibal" or keeping from or almost slipping and saying "shibal" but that's reaaallly inaccurate.
Shibal is a bad enough word that when they say it on official programming, it's entirely bleeped/"chirped" out (e.g., JK quoting V after hanging up on him in AYS1) OR when they're saying it and its impact is important to convey the weight of the moment, even "shibal" is left in for its intended impact -like in some concerts or documentaries..
When they say "aish/eesh" or "sheee" - these things are their own things.. and they're closer to like "hmph/sighhh" than a swear. Kinda like FUCKING/FUCK is obviously the swear, but 'dang' or 'blowing a raspberry' out of frustration is not understood/interpreted as "fuck" - it's like.. it's its own expression of frustration or bewilderment or indignance or whatever depending on context - so next time you hear something like that.. if it's not entirely bleeped out or kept FULLY in tact, it's likely just one of these other sound expressions

fun fact? did you know that because of this confusion - when Koreans, even Korean-Americans (and I'm sure other Korean-??? people), when it's time to disclose our age, we normally don't say our age (cuz that can be confusing, see above), we say the year we're born. And that's how, we distinguish who's younger/older for determining whether or not to speak in formal/casual Korean as well - although when you first meet anyone courtesy is to speak in formal Korean until/unless your ages are made known and the older permit the younger people to speak informally. If it's a professional setting, you might just continue speaking formally to each other anyway to preserve the professionalism
That's also why you see so many idols/celebs (not just BTS) grouped by the year they were born, V/Jimin, "the 95s" - RM/j-hope, "the 94s" - JK/Mingyu/Cha Eunwoo/etc. "the 97s" etc. - this is how we'd refer to them if they were part of our social circles if the clusters were especially close or up to something together in those age clusters loll
For anyone that may not know, "Korean age" which has been done away with for a few years now - you age +1 year on your birthday AND +1 year every January for having aged 'another year' - yea I know.. that's why they don't do this anymore and have all adopted 'international age' but old habits die hard... and in the case of BTS, old habits have not left the building hardly at all lol.. and regularly confuse our bingbongs. But I lowkey love that no one ever knows their age and they're all somewhere in their 30s and Jin will always be, give or take, a decade or two older than the rest just because loll

the maknaes.. are so baby when they're with their hyungs. it's so so so sweet and it's so deeply Korean in a way that makes me really miss my Korea-Korean family/friends. I have Korean-American friends in the states of course but they're Americanized and don't abide these dynamics - for good reason, we would've needed to assimilate to fit into American school social structures... we were probably encouraged to "shed" these social hierarchical expectations in certain contexts or after a certain age
RM/SUGA/Jin: me too!

Sitting here typing up these translations.. watching them do quantum physics basic addition.. I am deeply comforted by the fact they have such great relationships with managers that love, respect, and cherish them deeply. Amen. LOLLLL

from the clip, "정국이 내가 어렸을 때 어버 키웠어" - "Jungkookie, naega eoreus-eul ttae eobeo kiwosseo" = I raised Jung Kookie on my back ever since he was little. Many of the hyungs say that about JK, in some interviews/clips Jin AND SUGA AND j-hope all say some variation of this phrase and it's this phrase that a lot of moms/grandmas use - that I raised this kid on my back and instantly evokes imagery like this (below)
Rather than literally meaning 'raised on my back,' this means that I raised the child very preciously/attentively and we all know the hyungs raised their boba so thoughtfully, so gently, and so so so preciously. yup back to crying for 3 business days.

Like in America when we watch the countdown to "the ball drop" in Times Square, NYC on New Year's Eve - in Korea, they watch the New Year's Bell-Ringing Ceremony (제야의 종 타종식, Jaeya-ey johng tajohngshik = literally, 'ceremony to strike the bell the night the old year is cleared away' during which a massive bell, located at the Bosingak bell pavilion in Seoul, is rung 33 times to 'ring in the new year')
This event is widely televised and celebrities and other public figures/community heroes take turns striking the bell - 33 times stemming from a Buddhist tradition symbolizing prayers for peace, reflection, and a fresh start
