My commentary in green

RM & V: We are the recently discharged Kim Taehyung & Kim Namjoon

RM: I caught a cold for the first time in a really long time so my voice is gone. I said this before but I’ve been so good about.. for two weeks straight watching what I eat; skipping lunch; etc. but like I told you before.. Last night I was up late chatting w/ the junior [soldiers] and it was all fine. But I think around 2 I laid down and I COULD NOT STOP CRYING. As a result.. my face is VERY puffy and I regret it BUT when we are back and taking pics and stuff [officially] I’ll be better prepared~

V: I cried a bit when my seniors were discharged but now that it’s my turn - I didn’t really feel like crying

RM: You’re supposed to be happy - that’s okay. But I couldn’t help but think of the people I was leaving behind [my juniors]. I mean I was happy for sure but I couldn’t help but feel like a lot of things all at once. How was it for you Taehyungssi?

V: I learned a lot about their dreams.

RM: right cuz they’re young

V: yea and after spending a year and a half with them - I can’t help but SO sincerely like … root for their dreams to come to fruition and wonder if there’s anything I could practically do in support

RM: mm

V: we talked a LOT all the time. In the military, you’re together all the time like.. You see them right before sleep and as soon as you wake up - it was a novel feeling

RM: I felt like ..back when I was 17 in Nonhyeon Dong in the dorms w/ like 30 people - but now to relive that in my 30s… it felt like I was going back to trainee life from the beginning of enlistment~ what was funny was like.. 5-6 years before enlisting I ..really didn’t get in trouble you know? Like what.. my mom told me to eat my vegetables, be careful in traffic, when are you going to get your driver’s license? Stuff like that? But other than that I never really got in trouble. But upon enlisting, I kept getting in trouble. So I just recalibrated to consider this time another opportunity to just start from the basics, let everything go [likely his ego/experience/clout/etc.] and build an experience from scratch. I said this in front of the reporters earlier too but I’ve gotten so much closer with my friends who have gone through the enlistment process and my own father. I kept thinking about Hoseokie and Seokjin hyung.

V: i think it’s fascinating/crazy that the [military] terms our dads were using during their generation are still being used now
RM: It wasn’t all fun and games or anything but I kept feeling this connection to the people who have done this before us. While we were out there working like crazy (doing BTS things), there were others that had committed their youth to serving/protecting our country. I kept thinking about things I never really thought about before.

V: Of course there were difficult times, but I really loved meeting all these different people and hearing all these very different life stories and having these very different conversations making brand new memories~ some truly unbelievable

RM: like.. they say it’s like stranger than fiction - I heard a ton too.. There was a friend who ate a cactus and had a cactus needle stuck in his throat lol

V: it was fun. Oh~ and when I kept wondering, "Are there still ARMY waiting for us?” I’d go check on Weverse ..when I was down

RM: For me I’d (mumbly I can’t tell) before discharge I felt like I should so …I read a lot and towards my discharge I felt like I should start again. This is the watch I’d always wear - a friend gave it to me when I enlisted

JIN: Congrats on being finished! I’m so jealous you’re discharged! When will I get discharged?

RM: This man (pointing to Jin) … he taunted us SO RELENTLESSLY =_=

JIN: Who me??? When?? BTW, I came as the present.

RM: It looked like you were going to say EXACTLY that looking at the ribbon on your head. Hyung, you never change ::shakes Jin’s hand:: (LOLOLLLOL)

JIN: how does it feel to be out?
RM: I actually still can’t believe it
JIN: ahh.. That’s right - it’ll take 2 days [to get used to it] What are you gonna do now?

V: Us? Right now?
JIN: no- now that you’re out
V: well first mm…. Something
JIN: FIGHTING!
V: Do you still have that energy/FIGHTING vibe??
JIN: LOOK AT MY EYES CANT YOU TELL?
V: Cuz you look like you don’t..
JIN: you are correct….but you guys were all enlisted so one of us had to keep it going~~ intensely. And then two of us had to keep it going

RM: 2 more come out tomorrow
JIN: Right now 4 of us can.. I trust you guys
V: Hyung - seriously though, we gotchu now~ We’ll do the hard carry
JIN: ok ok I trust you. YAAA you guys got SO FIT. …now if we fight, will I lose??
V: You ABSOLUTELY will lose.
JIN: I .. think so too
V: Hyung.. I have returned from a scary place
JIN: … let’s all play nice ::shakes RM & V’s hands::
RM: Hyung - thank you so much for your hard work. You and j-hope have been carrying us…
JIN: ehh what do you mean~ you guys have done the hard work - I’ve just been having fun
RM: Hwaiting on your tour
JIN: byebye … wait put my flowers near you… where’s j-hope??
RM & V: j-hope came and left earlier and asked where you were
JIN: I wanted to stop by during the live ..is why

V: I’m going to share a TMI
RM: ..prob have a lot. I kept thinking about turning on lives like 300 times over [sharing TMI’s]
V: my MBTI changed
RM: you’re normally EN?
V: I’m normally EN or INFP - but now I’m ENTP
RM: you’re a T now? Why?
V: I cannot abide juvenile nonsense anymore
RM: HAHAHAHA - (serious) is it cuz you got trained in such harsh circumstances?
V: I can’t take it anymore
RM: so no jazz anymore? Cuz you have to be in your feels for that no?

RM: in the winter time?
V: yes… so all the seasons except winter time..

V: absolutely not.
RM: I think this will last a month
V: you are probably right :)

RM: I thought about what I’d say in this moment so many times - but now that I’m here .. I don’t know what to say
V: mm.. (same) TO ARMY: you have to understand we haven’t done a live in over a year and a half.. You never know what we’re gonna say O_O

RM & V mumble catch up with each other about how they both lived with a lot of GEN Z’s and how these Gen Z’s would talk to each other, right before sleep especially, about the latest this and that and webtoons and such~~~ (TBH it’s very low and mumbly)

Then they go on to thank respective roles/groups from their military experience that helped them grow.

V: do we have to take off this [uniform] patch on our arm? I think we have to take it off now that we’re out
RM: o_o?… idk i’ll ask someone about it ANYWAYYY~ I think because we experienced 2 new years, even though we served the shortest allowed duration (18 months) - it felt long, not just to us but to our friends too - they were like why have you been gone SO long, but it’s just cuz we passed 2 new years;

V: you know what made me the MOST sad?? When I saw articles on the internet like “RM & V’s enlistment is already almost over”
RM: ehh they’re gonna say that for everyone and we might feel that for the ppl who are enlisted after us like “oh shoot they’re out already?” nbd

RM: OH our TXT friends sent us gifts and wrote us stuff~ Thank you [TXT] guys
V: I’m so touched
RM: Love language - we like this

RM: ..okay so a year and a half is a long time… and we’re older now
V: I enlisted in the last year of my 20s and came out 31 (in “korean age” - but not as of 6/2023)
RM: You (ARMY) waited so long during our enlistment… thank you so much. I don’t know if I could’ve waited..
V: I’m so amazed at the ARMY that waited for us. .. cuz you didn’t have that much exposure to us -
RM: I mean honestly you can’t as soldiers.. Right? 너무 티났나? ::holds up arms in shape of T for like a solid 5 seconds::
V: but even without a lot of things for ARMY - they still waited

RM: there are even folks waiting around HYBE - if you could please stay at a safe distance [away] that would be greatly appreciated
V: I think it might be a little dangerous though

HE DIDN’T USE TO BE THIS FILLED TO THE BRIM WITH DAD JOKES FRIENDS. WHAT IS HAPPENING.

Fun fact: this OLD slang (티 났어 tee nassuh or 티 난다 tee nanda) = Did I make it too obvious?/You made it so obvious - but the 티 in 티 났어 stands for ‘tell’ or ‘transparent’ in English~ this was apparently popularized in the 80s/90s by sitcoms/variety shows. I GREW UP hearing this so I thought it was Korean (until today… yup I texted my mom and then confirmed it w/ chatgpt lmao)

V: you know it’s so much better to do this with someone else
RM: today - I was released with just one other person; all the rest of my group were discharged earlier than me - I watched all of them go
V: I discharged with 3 others today

RM & V mumble about getting the special designation through different qualifying tasks in the military; I truly cannot understand what they’re talking about cuz they’re mumbling AND it’s military jargon I’m unfamiliar with sry lol BUT turns out RM never had the opportunity to try for it

RM: ANYWAY~
V: yea let’s stop talking about this
RM: we had a lot of plans so if you wait for us… cuz like our last concert was Yet to Come in Busan. Tbh for the past year and a half I actually didn’t do much creative work cuz I kept having.. Mostly serious/heavier thoughts..
V: same
RM: I tried but it didn’t come and it’s been the longest break I’ve taken from doing creative work - but I think this break afforded me some time to recharge so I think I can make fun things.. And show you all - we’re back
V: is there anything specific you wanted to say?
RM: on the live?
V: in general?
RM: i have a lot I want to talk about but i’m not sure exactly what to say… it feels like I’ve been out of it for a bit - give myself some time to ease back into the real world.. And Jimin and JK are coming back

V: i want to look good for ARMY so I woke up at 5am and worked out; I wanted to look so good for ARMY- seeing me again for the first time in a long time - I took a long time in the mirror too cuz it’s been so long

V: is there anything - not music related that you wanna do? Do you wanna travel?
RM: of course i wanna travel
V: where do you wanna go?
RM: mm.. I haven’t been on a legit vacation in SO long so I don’t really even know but yea.. We have so much ahead to do… tbh I really wanted to do a live actually

RM: I really missed just shooting the breeze w/ ARMY~ I’ll do it later after I go home; I’ll see my fam… Imma go workout rn and then maybe later - I may turn it on tonight

Reading ‘what do you miss the most?’

V: the kids (the juniors in his group)/the people; and that they were all serious about exercise
RM: I was 83kg at my biggest and i’m 74kg now.. 69 before enlistment
V: I was 62 before enlistment; 80 at my biggest; and now 67kg - so now I understand how to lose weight, Hyung but your body was like good at 80kg
RM: skipping lunch is the easiest way… mmm the silhouette was
~mumbling about exercise, fitness, gains, weight loss~
V: …so turns out working out consistently 6 days a week - one does get healthier; i’m proud of that pats himself
RM: I’m proud that I learned sax
V: hyung you’re so speechless
RM: I might be able to use it [sax] in the future
V: …(asking staff) is there more you need us to do?
RM: nah that feels so staged..
V: BUT but it’s cuz I haven’t done this in so long – so so - I don’t know what to do

V: we’re looking at the camera but what we really want to see is the ARMY INSIDE the camera
