RM Live - 10/5 (Part 1*)
RM has come to share SO much and debrief with his ARMY besties yet again.. this is the first yap-filled half of a 52+min live.. part 2 coming soon... stay tuned!
즐추 (Jeul Chu), 즐추2
My commentary in green.
The name of today's live is 즐추 (jeul-chu) = a portmanteau of 즐거운 (jeul-geo-un) and 추석 (Chu-seok)
This live is 52 minutes long - this is just about the first half (first 26 minutes) including the ~1.5minute first live. Sometimes I'm able to translate multi-hour lives in one post because they don't speak much (e.g., JK singing or doing house chores with mostly music/silence and bursts of yapping) but RM is here to decompress and fills up almost every single second with his thoughts.. so part 2 of the translation will come soon! Thank you for your patience.
PART 1
Why's it so dark?
bruh it's cuz you're wearing a hat.
hey - sup guys?
i think i have to change the mode.. no.. maybe not..
i have to read the chat like this

hello guys
i was so bored during work so..
i was so bored during work so i turned on live
::waves::
i keep having to do this

he is a literal genius, friends. the derpiest genius to ever also melt your insides with his height, eyes, and lyrics. the. derpiest.

RM seems also to have a condition that makes him unable to conduct lives without becoming meme'd. Jung Kook shares this condition. We are all deeply concerned and endlessly amused.
OH do i have to start over? okay.. i think okay..
I'm gonna restart.
it works right? now? right?
good good
hi everyone
i was bored so i wanted to say hi
the translations work well, right? even if i speak in korean?
even if i speak in Korean, the translation works well right?
. . ...😐😑😐🤌🏼
okay
me?
i was working..
no, exercising...
no ..i mean working out or whatever.. i was gonna do all that but then got kinda restless/bored so turned on the live
everyone doing okay?
i haven't eaten yet at all - not even one meal yet today
yup the comments are being translated well too
some of you have asked me what their POV is regarding the translated comments... while I appreciate the trust - I'm always very honest - bruh, I don't know. I don't see their POV hahahah but what I can say is that the same translation engine translating their words for us -is likely being used to translate your comments for them.
that said, it should be fine BECAUSE - when they speak, they're talking to us about all of the things, mixing in slang, sometimes jumping between languages, and talking about a wide variety of topics. and sometimes they slur their speech or mumble or are sleepy, etc. so the translation might mess things up quite a bit because it depends on the audio being picked up..
but for our comments, it's likely simpler since we're typing it out (so nothing has to rely on being able to make out audio) and also because we're likely interacting with their updates/questions, our feedback is probably relevant. you're not speaking to them about esoteric topics or whipping out slang in your respective languages... so the translation engine probably does a solid job translating comments for them.
these days? it doesn't really show right now
well i haven't worked out yet today .. but right now i'm about 71kg?
(about 157 lbs)
the other kids lost a lot of weight too
i probably do weight the most out of all of them right now
i think i'm probably similar to Jung Kook right now at about 71kg
I run everyday
I just work and rest everyday..
everyday... weights for about an hour and a half
then running for about 40-50 minutes
i spend my days like that
i miss you guys too
it's chuseok but there's nothing to do really.. and i'm at the office
that's right. READ BANNED BOOKS.
he's referencing the hat he's wearing from Penguin Random House that says "Read Banned Books"
oh you have to go to work? same! i'm at workkk
it's Chuseok so no one is even around here in Seoul
Chuseok is like a "harvest festival" in terms of what it celebrates and kinda similar to "Thanksgiving" in terms of how it's celebrated - where lots of people 'go back home' or all gather with family, some subset of people will spend the better portion of the night before and the morning of cooking up a storm with some key traditional foods involved, some people might get dressed up in hanbok (but I don't really know any non-elderly folk to do this..), they reflect on all they have, reflect on everything to look forward to, and play traditional games.
for me too.. i'm just here doing this.. wondering what yall are up to
mm i gotta go write lyrics.. and do some edits.. and work out
it's all the same day in and day out
books?
i was just at a cafe reading a book by myself until a little while ago
oOh you wanna see it?
it's a short book... one sec..
it's a quick read
Patrick Süskind - Der Kontrabass

it's not very long maybe like 80 pages? it's fun
i just got back from reading this
wow it's 3:30 in Texas?
holy
i usually sleep around that time
yes, so next year i have an exhibition in San Francisco
right now maybe.. yesterday i had a meeting with them
so i've been preparing for about a year and will probably prepare for another year laying everything out
that's probably how it'll go
and potentially once it's wrapped in San Francisco
idk.. if it'll go to another museum or tour to other museums.. or
but that depends on how things go with other museums..
for now, just San Francisco
but touring to other museums is also being discussed...
but for now, it's just that..
i can understand some japanese
but not much
i downloaded duolingo for japanese...
tbh i was much better at japanese long ago..
now.. it's not quite there..
it's about 5:30 in Korea right now?
is that right? 5:30? yeah, i think so
i haven't eaten a meal yet..
today ..cuz i was able to set the camera - it's a bit better, right?
i usually don't have a tripod so..
my recent life
i just work out, run, and do weight training
i usually go out ..watch movies by myself these days when i have free time
yea on my own..
i usually go to the museum by myself
I live a pretty solitary life..
I'm supposed to see Jimin during the holidays but..
I just go when I'm called so it depends on when Jimin calls..
but I don't know when Jimin will call me
I did watch Taehyung speaking Japanese...
it's still
you're saying Duolingo's not that great? I mean.. tbh it depends on the individual studying the language, no?
what anime am I watching these days? I used to watch during the military days..
but basically all the ones my military friends recommended for me during those days.. i've seen ALL of them by now
so i watched "Infinite Castle" ..'Demon Slayer' and then 'Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc:
and then.. Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke got re-released recently... so I have to go watch that. Perfect Blue is also back in theaters.
lowkey love that he watches releases of older anime movies. like, same. I do that too.
i mean i'm doing just fine~ no updates is still a kind of update right?
in Korea too it's been rainy and bleghh
when I was in LA and Milan the weather was REALLY nice
the weather has a HUGE impact on people so..
when I got back to Korea .. I was able to move around freely and see my friends, which was nice. But the weather has been really bad lately, and it's been making me feel a bit down. Honestly, I've been feeling quite low, so I thought talking to you guys might help lift my spirits

the face he makes right after he says that
oh recently.. that.. Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another..
That was just released but I haven't seen it yet...
the exhibit? yea that'll be fun
it is quite burdensome
here, he's not necessarily saying the work is too much too handle but that it's burdensome in the sense that it's a HUGE opportunity/responsibility, it's his first foray into this kind of work so he wants to do it really well and the pressure of all of that weighs heavy
but it's so different from anything else that I'm really trying to do my best with it
so.. that it'll really be worth your while
the more literal translation of his words here are: "well.. so that you won't regret the footsteps you take to come see the exhibit... i'll prepare it so that it is fun/enjoyable." By now, you may know that I provide nuanced translations, not literal ones, so for all intents and purposes the point he's trying to communicate IS very much "i'll make it worth your while" but if ever there is something lost in glazing over the literal words I'll put it in my commentary. This phrasing pattern is not necessarily unique to RM here.
Koreans, especially in formal/business contexts, do phrase things like 'for the benefit of X, we will Y' or 'for the utmost use of X, we will Y' - perhaps like the english "you'll get the best bang for your buck" if you something something something" but these words are uniquely RM's - not a common idiom as is "it'll really be worth your while" - so I just thought that word choice was so precious and delicate and intentional and wanted you all to know - everything he does, plans, and speaks - he does with a LOT of thought. I try to live this way too.
so since it's a transitional period..
i'm going to speak in Korean for a bit before I switch over to english
I am a Korean person so..
my claws won't come out here because i'm 10000% sure that folks that are subscribed to my translations are folks that are respectful of BTS as Korean artists and are, at the very least, open-minded about learning/hearing Korean from Korean artists being spoken. but IF you happen to be one of those people that have ever demanded that BTS "speak english" on their lives, please leave me a comment here or shoot me a dm. I'll gladly educate you on how and why that's offensive. Beyond just being offensive, it diminishes your own reputation as a respectful fan/person in their eyes.
the saxophone? well I'm worse at it than before because I don't practice it..
..yea they said you have to see it in IMAX
because they filmed it with a different kind of film camera
I don't know which comment he was replying to but some kind of movie probably
I'm on a diet..so I just had a protein[shake] for lunch and didn't eat anything else
I'm not dieting specifically for any reason but right now..
just everyone is shedding weight
so we all just have this vibe.. of working out
and since everyone is losing weight
i naturally find myself trying to lose weight too
the translations work well right?
I know that these days - you've all learned a lot of Korean and speak it well..

RM's proud of you all s/o to LY: Korean crew
I hate dieting ...because I LOVE eating
and I think especially Korean food makes you gain more weight
I love Korean food so much
when I went to Milan this time, all the Europeans are so slim
and skinny and cool so
i was like "oh, the people who live here don't know about Korean food"
so that's how they can maintain their weight
and the weather in Milan is also just right, about 15 degrees celsius? that's the kind of weather I like
when the weather is like that, you can dress up nicely~
*15 degrees celsius = 59 degrees fahrenheit... um. sir... this is cold what are you talking about.
oh I have heard of it but I haven't seen it
I don't know what he's talking about here
Chuseok? What do I want to eat for Chuseok? ...when I was younger maybe.. like *송편.. a classic.. yea songpyeon is a tteok
송편 (songpyeon) = rice cake traditionally eaten during Chuseok... often filled with sweetened sesame seeds, red beans/chestnut filling..that's what they're making on this episode of Run BTS (ep.22)
my hair style?
if i wear my hat. ..my hair looks like this right now
so it's a *concept of not having my roots dyed..
컨셉 (kunsepp) = "concept" but used as "concept, idea, theme, vibe, aesthetic, look, style" depending on contexts in Korean
you'll hear this word used more formally when they're talking about shoot concepts or album concepts or the artistic direction of a project - but here he is jokingly calling his 'undyed' roots a 'concept' as if it'd been part of the planned aesthetic all along
that kinda vibe?
right now it's too greasy so i'm a bit embarassed to show you
"did you watch the vlog?" (a comment)
vlog?
oh not Milan...
oh the one where I was in Europe hanging out and stuff
no..i NEED. to lose weight, everyone
actually i look best when i start with *6
*when his weight in kg starts with a 6
tbh I didn't really try to go blonde...
i kinda was aiming for a dirty blonde
i was originally going for ash blonde
but i went for the ash... and all the color faded out by now..
so during the show .. it was actually super grey
but tbh the color fades out after like 3 days
so now i'm left with this kinda dirty blonde concept hair..
Chuseok is kinda like Thanksgiving..
like western Thanksgiving
you gather together... eat yummy food and it's like *Christmas..
*in the sense of family gathering and eating a lot of food together
ah.. how do you stay consistent with going to the gym? yea I think it's hard for people with jobs or people who have a set schedule, especially people who sit all day or do physical work, it's hard to keep up with going to the gym..
in reality.. for people who keep going to work or school, it's really hard to consistently make time for the gym
it's really hard
we do this as our job..
* important pause here - because without diminishing the INCREDIBLE amounts of work they put towards reaching their peak physical fitness and health and maintaining their bodies/appearance - it is not like a cute sidequest or an admirable hobby for them. It is GERMANE and CRITICAL to their career. I say this only because sometimes we look at idols (not just BTS but any celebrity?) that has awesome glowy skin, a perfect wardrobe, immaculate eating habits, and such disciplined workout routines - and compare ourselves to those folks in how we fall short of those standards but it's an entirely unreasonable comparison.
I think it's important not to overcorrect to extremes. We can't look at idols and think "I SUCK because I'm not eating a perfectly well balanced diet, I've reached for fast food X many times this month, I've only worked out a handful of times this week, etc." when INSERT IDOL HERE is doing ALL of that. but I also don't think it's healthy to swing too far in the other direction "I don't have to do this for work so I can 'treat myself' to whatever and 'excuse myself' ALL the time"
Self-love starts with honest self-inventory. Don't overburden yourself. Don't be complacent. There is lots of middle ground for you to explore, grow, and improve. Give yourself grace - but push yourself too. YOU ARE WORTH YOUR BEST EFFORT
okay back to shenanigans.
"I want to lose weight - what should I do?"
The way to lose weight is...
I also lost a lot of weight recently..
my friends were like "did you do *"위고비" but no, I didn't do that
it's nothing like that
there's truly only 2 main components
**eating less and moving more
that's the main answer
*"위고비" = "Wegovy" - a prescription weight loss drug that is quite popular in Korea (and globally) that have been used by many people (celebrities and non-celebs) for weight management
**THIS IS TRUE. now there's a MAJILLION ways to do this poorly or well right? But please don't fall for any miracle cure that will allow you to shed pounds in 3 days by drinking some kind of magical elixir tea or some nonsense. The science is that you need a caloric deficit. FOR FREE - you can plug in your weight and height into most calorie calculators online and get a decent estimate of what is a healthy caloric intake for you to maintain your weight. If you reduce the caloric intake, you will lose weight. If you reduce the caloric intake AND increase your physical activity (burning more calories), you will lose weight more quickly.
But it's critical to be mindful of your body's limits, your own dietary needs, injuries, etc. - and if you're ever feeling a bit stuck, you are not alone. If you need some support or some resources to start, I host a monthly 30-day challenge just to move a bit more each day. It's free and has linked resources whether you wanna join in with a group of ARMY or pursue it on your own!
Eating less is just ..there's no way around it
You all like.. cookies... cakes.. women tend to love desserts
you have to cut those out cold turkey - especially things with sugar
sugar.. especially refined sugar is the real enemy
you have to stay away from refined sugar
but hehe I also love eating so much
i love desserts.. i love fried foods..
i love salty foods and spicy foods
i mean, we live to eat delicious food, right?
so then to workout and to lose weight..
i mean sure.. there's the added motivation/benefit of looking good
but beyond that.. for life.. eating healthy and studying/learning - THESE ARE LIFE
"why do I want to lose weight?"
I mean.. I think I look better whwen I'm a bit leaner
oh the ring Jin hyung gave me? that's safely tucked away in my room
it's so sparkly.. i reserve it for special occassions
I mean Jin hyung gave it to me - I canNOT lose it.
these are all bottega rings
but apart from these rings.. I just keep them at home
it's good to do aerobic and anaerobic exercise - both
cuz see - like if you do anaerobic.. like weight lifting first..
weight lifting uses up a lot of carbs..
then if you do aerobic exercise after that, fat loss is more effective
I'm still haven't broken past 71kg even though I've lost a lot of weight
but tbh [my weight] has to start with a 6 for...
like.. so the camera ..if you think about it.. when we see people in real life, we see them in 3D
but when we see them on camera, it's 2D.. all the 3D is flattened into 2D
so it looks a bit exaggerated.. maybe? how do i put it.. and the resolution these days on everything is SO good..
so you can see all the lines really well.. especially since my chin is short
so it's a bit of a double-edged sword - it's good because I look younger
but.. ..I think I have the kinda face that looks better when it's more defined
My outfit?

precious koalapooks just breakdanced so we could see his whole outfit. i love. jak;lfgjl;adfjg;lajdfklgj.
today - i just went super comfortable like this
that's it!
it's true.. as i get older - it's harder to lose weight
i don't know why.. i think it's because my basal metabolic rate is dropping
i'm still thinking about whether to do it at another museum
lowkey i love that we are weaving in and out of health, fashion, and museum talk - all part of bestie RM's yap time.
"my hair?"
i was thinking about what to do with my hair for a while.. and after a while i decided to just go with this hairstyle for now.
cuz.. you know why.. it's cuz i have kind of a shorter chin - so if i grow my hair out too long i can give off this creeper vibe..
and anyway i'm 31 now.. so like..
i can't be doing this.. like *치렁치렁한 hair.. it can look a little bit tacky as I get older
*치렁치렁한 (chireongchireonghan) = Korean mimetic word for long/flowing, dangly; it can be used to describe like long hair, loose dangly clothing/jewelry, etc.
everyone is doing so well typing comments in Korean
or.. like the translation is working well so the comments are coming in in Korean ...better than I thought
today's TMI? today... well yea the weather is not good and bleghh so i turned it on [the live]
i just wanted to chat a bit
i've also been doing new recordings these days
i've been doing new recordings while preparing for the next album..and
i mean i'm working on lyrics and recording for the first time in quite a while.. so ..
it felt really weird.. i should do it more often but ..
not having done it in a while.. in a way it was really nice but it also felt ..you know.. a bit foreign/unfamiliar too
i normally sleep around 3 these days.. oh these days.. i'm consulting with ChatGPT on this
it takes me like ~2 hours to fall asleep again
it's become difficult for me [again] to fall asleep
these days when it gets to like 1 or 2am, i get a bit anxious
because i think "i have to sleep"
i think normal people .. go to bed around 12am even if it's a late night..
but when it gets to like 1-2am, i get a bit anxious
the thought that 'I have to go to sleep'
like.. normal people ... by 12am..
or even if it's late .. i get anxious
i think ppl.. even at latest.. go to sleep by 12..1...2?
i mean it's true that my lifestyle is.s.
cuz it's true of i have a night owl lifestyle
so i think ..the pattern is different
but try to get up by 11am or earlier
but as a result.. i keep thinking i have to fall asleep and that thought keeps me awake..
yea so these days.. it's gotten harder for me to fall asleep again
and these days i spend a lot of time alone
so i think.. i get a bit.. trapped in my own head
i think i may need to be seen again for it and find a way to address it
i think it's hard for sensitive people
i'm sure there are sensitive ppl out there too
when you sleep.. when you sleep.. if you're a light/sensitive sleeper - it's really hard
even when i'm alone like.. the sound of the AC or humidifier ..once I get stuck on it- I c an't sleep
some ppl turn on white noise machines to sleep right?
i put in earplugs even when i sleep alone
if there are ppl who even sleep w/ like airpods in ..
oh not too long ago, i switched my phone so ..
i'm getting used to it because it's a bit unfamiliar
how do you keep up your reading habits?
i actually get this question a lot.. like 'how do you keep up with reading?'
but tbh i haven't been ab le to read all that much recently
i, too, have become slightly addicted to the cheap dopamine hits from reels and stuff
because of this like "digital awakening" i do think it's also affecting my sleep
i mean things like putting books IN VIEW
there's nothing to it but to keep trying to read
you need a lot of intentional effort to keep up with reading
there are so many fun things to do these days
like games, youtube, reels, stuff like that... time just flies by
so you just have to consciously keep your phone away a bit
like all habits, like working out - it's all the same
even with working out - you just have to do it
[for me] i have to work out ..to feel like .. to sorta escape the day
but since it's like my 5th year in a row of working out as habit - by now- i just do it
more than like 'i really want the BEST body' or anything like that..
oh yea suddenly Taehyungie said he wants to film "Run BTS"
like.. you know how our Taehyungie gets stuck on random things *outta nowhere
뜬금없이 (ddeungeumeopsi) = out of nowhere; so you could say this when your friend proposes something super random, or makes like a really nonsensical suggestion, etc. like... 'where did that come from??' vibes
and he was like really pushing for us all to film Run BTS again so everyone was like.. "oh?" kinda vibe
CUTE KOYA LAUGH jakdlfgj;aldfjgl;akjfg timestamp
which handphone? that'll be revealed naturally in due time..
okay! it's been like 20 minutes so should i speak in english?
timestamp
he speaks in english for a little bit here so I'll let you recall that
the drink? this is boricha
보리차 (boricha) = barley tea; drink it cold and it's SO refreshing
fun fact - when i was a kid, I grew up ONLY drinking boricha AS water - the first time I went over a friend's house (circa kindergarten/1st grade?) and I asked for water and the parent got me a glass and filled it from the tap. I thought I'd done something wrong LOLL. I didn't want to be rude but I didn't want to drink what I perceived to be utilitarian liquid for dishwashing and gargling to spit out (brushing teeth) so I gently asked my friend if she wasn't also thirsty and she asked for a glass too. I watched her drink it first and when she remained nonchalant and gulped it down like it was no problem - I also sipped it. When I got home I had to debrief with my mom and ask her about how many other such surprises I'd encounter in my life lmao... turned out to be A LOTTT -most of which my mom did not anticipate.
[[back to Korean]]
ah, it doesn't translate the other way - okay. okay..
for everyone then, I'll speak in Korean
i think the translation tech is pretty good now so I think we can all understand each other even if I speak in Korean as long as I enunciate well
okay wine the good point.. the issue with wine is that with wine you wind up eating a TON of 'anju'
안주 (anju) = food/snacks that you eat while drinking alcohol - kinda the equivalent concept of "bar snacks" but adjusted to 'alcohol snacks' depending on which kinda alcohol you're sipping~
that's how you gain weight..
they call wine "뚜따"
*뚜따 (tdoo tda) = portmanteau of 뚜껑 (ttukkeong, lid/cap) and 따다 (ttada, to open) - so it means "once you open it, you have to finish it" - usually used in the context of alcohol. like "i opened this bottle of wine so i have to finish it all now"
once you open the lid/cap, you have to finish it
whiskey is great cuz it's not like that.. you can open it and then sip some and then save the rest ..
i like that you can store it easily/well - so for that reason i like whiskey
and recently.. mm i don't drink strong stuff.. maybe highballs?
but highballs aren't sold much outside of Korea and Japan
so in Milan if you ask for whiskey soda, they give you whiskey soda
but it doesn't hit like the highball you get in Korea or Japan - just doesn't taste the same
so i just make it myself or the highballs here taste the best
the tour? well.. the tour is very.. um..SIGH
we have to do the tour super legit.. it's been 7 years since our last one
oh and recently my skin has been getting a lot of compliments so
from the makeup artists and stuff
so recently i also started getting lymphatic massages - Taehyungie recommended it to me
he told me to try it so i've had it twice now
i had it back when i was a trainee and i got bruises all over
it was really painful
but i wonder if it'll make me look a bit more handsome so i'm getting these massages
highball is the best (spoken in english with like ..a korean accent -,-" why? who knows.)
*Mautai/Maotai/Moutai/Maotai? these are good.. these are good
(as distinct from mai tai, the cocktail), is a Chinese liquor - it's like a strong distilled spirit made from grain
when I have moutais though I tend to crave Chinese food with it
like fried rices or Beijing duck

i wonder what made him make this face loll
the fashion show is ..it's a funny thing right
handing off the baton like.. who was the first to go?
Jung Kook in New York.. then Jin hyung for Gucci.. then I did Bottega then.. hm then Jimin for Dior.. then Taehyungie's there for Celine..
Earrings? similar to the rings.. like
I mean I rarely.. these are from high school.. these are like the earrings from high school - nothing fancy - maybe like 30,000 won? (*~$20-22USD)
like of the earrings.. these are like the cheap fake diamonds
but I'm trying to change my style up a bit so .. I'm trying it out
I'm debating on what to eat after working out today
maybe like a burger?
like skip the friest and just a simple burger?
"do you have a song on repeat these days?"
*맴돌는 (maem dolneun) = to circle around, to linger, to stay in one's mind; so the phrase "요즘 머릿속에 맴돌는 노래" = "a song that lingers in my mind these days" or "a song that's been on repeat in my head these days" - but you can kinda hear it like "_____ lives rent free in my head"; so you can say this about a person, a movie, a song, a lyric - something you get 'stuck' on
i have to get back to listening to more music
i've been listening to this and that while studying it..
my favorite thing to do these days? is probably working out
depression and anxiety are coming for me again
but it's always like this when i'm working on an album.. like ..
like when we're promoting the album and on tour and stuff.. ..
but then that's a different kind of stress actually ..
but when i'm preparing .. I spend a lot of time on my own
I don't handle being alone very well..
I mean but this isn't a good thing right?
as you get older - i think you should know how to be friends with yourself
i think you should know how to mitigate your sense of loneliness a bit better
but like i still.. being alone with myself..
i can't even stay at home by myself very well so ..even after I've made my home this beautiful space.. I don't really enjoy it all that much
i basically just go home to sleep
i still feel like i'm not quite fully an adult yet
like i can't spend time with myself ..i think about this quite a bit
i think it's really important to know how to spend time alone
so ..i really sorta envy people who are homebodies.. that can just hang out at home all the time.
i'm ALWAYS out and about
so those who can spend time alone well? i think that's a really important skill.
sometimes i feel like i have to be going out for 'life' to be lifing you know?
but anyways - that i struggle so much to spend time alone i think.. is an issue..
Part 2 coming soon...
