RM: i think it's amazing that the 'will' is even involved - like if you say 'i want to fly' - cuz aren't you just only supposed to be a passive observer in dreams? like in movies?
Jin: really? i'm always the first-person protagonist in my dreams
RM: i mean I'm also the first-person protagonist but I don't feel like I'm controlling my will in dreams - no?
Jin: i think i do in most cases..
RM: always feels like the dream is just flowing around me

Jin: I mean when I dream, a bit unlike Taehyung, something is always happening (or a bit more accurately for context, he's always in the middle of some chaos going down) and ...well I don't dream all that much but I do think I've had a few dreams recently
V: I always thought that when you dream, the "story" continues - have you had many experiences where you're dreaming and wake up and go back to sleep and you continue the dream you were having?
RM: that's happened before sure

V: but if I wake up and then go into a different dream .. if I go into a different dream that's really hard for me. I like continuous dreams.

I've actually had dozens of lucid dreams - but none of them were instances where I intentionally 'summoned' it to happen or wanted it to happen. so PERSONALLY, i do know lucid dreaming is possible.. but i don't ..trust that it's a 'discipline' one could train to do on any sort of regularly repeatable basis..lolll
Jin: i mean dreams can have like endless kinds of 'plots' right? so what if "lucid dreaming" is just one of the many 'plots' that can happen in dreams?

V: but hyung (to Jin) the fact that you don't dream at all is really good because it means that you're getting deep sleep - for me, dreaming so much, it's REM sleep - REM sleep is Rapid Eye Movement sleep

friends... just because i've seen some comments on my latest derpus video asserting like "oh THIS is why my sleep ...XYZ" - ***please do not take this very lowkey chaotic conversation as comprehensive information/advice on why or why not your sleep is a certain way.
Good sleep is so important to good overall health and you should have solid information on why your sleeping patterns are the way they are - especially if they need to be improved!
Barring cases of individuals with sleeping disorders and other exceptional case scenarios, most "average" individuals experience light sleep (N1/N2), deep sleep (N3), and REM sleep cyclically, about every 90 minutes, MULTIPLE times per night. Read more here.

In brief, the book, titled MOHSOON (PARADOX/CONTRADICTION) seems to unpack the pov of the main character whose mom lives a life marked by a busyness from having to grind to make ends meet while her mom's identical twin sister (aunt) lives a life marked by wealth but a deep jadedness from her 'boring' life
Makes sense that with all the existential crises he seems to host on a fairly regular basis that a book dwelling on 'paradox' piqued his interest

I want to make it clear that as much as they all troll each other - these comments are delivered in all sincerity, not sarcasm or trolling!
If you've followed BTS for a long time, you may be familiar with the fact that when V was younger, he spoke much more slowly and used a lot of filler words when speaking in lieu of just taking long pauses, because being in entertainment, when you're asked something on screen - you do have to answer, but if your thoughts haven't been organized yet, you need to buy yourself time. Of course this is true of all entertainers/public speakers, not just Koreans/V.
Over the years and especially through their solo eras - they ALL grew so much sharper in ways they most wanted to improve. Among the many ways V evolved, his members have commented many times since their reunion that V's speaking is less choppy/more fluid/more articulate - and these comments are ALWAYS delivered/received in love and sincerity!

*also an NPC is a non-playable character in a game - so if you've ever played a game and run into a 'civilian' for information or they're just background characters you can bump into, etc. those are NPCs and Jin had to record some special lines to be featured in Maple Story for their collaboration project among other special features

Jin: yea - Maple [Story] and I was conducting the event - when someone said they'd prepared an acostic poem with my name

acrostic poems are like a fun 'word game' in Korean culture and entertainment - so you'll see Korean celebs ask each other/drop acrostic poems all the time if you haven't witnessed it a TON already - so it's not weird or random for this fan to have wanted to do this
so for example, an acrostic with Jin's name could be like:
Kim (김) - 김치가 좋아 -> kimchiga jowha -> i like kimchi
Seok (석) - 삭양질 때마다 네 상각이 난다 -> every time the sun sets, I'm reminded of you
Jin (진) - 진짜 사랑해 -> jinjja saranghae -> i really love you
and if you're really good - the acrostic, however long it is (unlike the one I just did) weaves together to tell a story and are not just disparate sentences lol

RM (jumping ahead and anticipating what the conclusion of the acrostic would've been realizing the last syllable left was "Jin" before Jin asked the individual to reconsider): ...Jin.. they were probably going to end it with "is Jin Ramen"

Jin: no I did listen to it - they just changed up the last part ..i think it was something like '진짜 맛있는 건 ..랍스터와 물회야?' (jinjja masheetneun gun ..lobsterwa mulhweya?) = the most delicious thing is ..like lobster and mulhwe

Jin: yea they changed it last minute
so to be clear, there's no indication that the acrostic WAS going to be offensive or especially problematic - it sounds like it was going to be a silly pun situation at worst, but if you remember what I wrote about Jin in the JinVKookbap live, Jin is very conscientious about public perception and is just taking zero chances. He safeguards his own reputation, BTS reputation, and the reputation of this fan by redirecting before anything potentially wonky could've gone down and this may sound extreme or overly sensitive to some but as a 'mat unnie/noona' in nearly ALL MY major life contexts, I'd say I wouldn't even bat an eye - this feels exactly like what he should've done 😅 - For better and for worse, this is the default programming in the 'eldests' in many Korean families/contexts

V: no like.. the afterlife and *사십구재
*사십구재 (四十九齋) is a Buddhist memorial ritual held over 49 days after someone dies. I had to look this up because I'm unfamiliar with Buddhism. I had heard the term before but didn't know exactly what it was
In Korean Buddhist tradition, there's a belief that the spirit passes through the transitional stages after death for 49 days and rituals/prayers during that period can help guide the deceased peacefully into the next world or rebirth
V: the whole like if you can endure the temptations for 49 days, you can break the cycle of reincarnation or something like that
RM: ah it's kinda like that - *if you eat garlic and mugwort for 100 days, you become a person
V/Jin: right right
RM: there's always something like that that's passed on
This is a reference to the 단군신화 (Dangun Myth) - mythology explaining the origins of Korea
You can read more about that here. In brief, both a tiger and a bear want to be come human and a deity instructs them to avoid the sun for 100 days and leaves them with mugwort and garlic to eat exclusively during that time. The tiger gives up after like 20 days. The bear endures and assumes the form of a woman. #hellyea and the woman becomes the mother of like the founder of Korea
I grew up with this story. This is a very classic myth that a lot of Korea-Korean kids of a certain generation would likely hear in schools/from their parents - but as a Korean-American, I'd learn a bit later in life that it was a unique privilege afforded me to have parents that were able/willing/available to read to me when I was very young. Even with my younger brother, only 6 years later, my parents were working ALL the time. Very few of my close Korean-American friends (close to my age) share this experience. I was the one to put my younger brother to bed many nights - but unfortunately, I didn't pass on too much Korean lore - instead, so he wouldn't have to go to ESL (like I did), I read from classic American bedtime stories/books and I also just made up a bunch of stories all the time too. He still recalls a few that left impressions in his imagination - even ones I'd forgotten hahaha
RM: I mean even just tonight, I have no confidence that I'd be able to resist watching Reels before going to sleep - doing something like that for 49 days straight is actually such a huge challenge
Jin: wow if you told me I'd have to cut games out for a week - that'd be so difficult

Jin: my friends are so similar to me - so for example, we'd plan a trip for 2 nights/3 days and then on the first night like we arrive and crash.. and then the next day, in the evening - since they're all like me - their legs and hands start trembling and we're all like 'i think i have to play gamesss - let's leave early' and then we'll leave the room empty and just head home a day early

I've mentioned this before too but the reason why you see Korean celebs go by '97 liners, 94' liners, etc. - is because with Korean age being fazed out and international age being adopted nationally - but CULTURALLY - it having been around for so long that so many people still use it, it's more confusing when someone asks your age and you reply with "your age" because then you have to specify by which calendar, etc. so it's easier to say essentially- "I'm a 95." "I'm a 94" - everyone's on the same page.

Don't let his coy/modest act fool you. I do think he keeps a very tight knit CLOSE close inner circle of like REAL heart friends (outside of the members) but as far as friends who are #teamkimseokjin, he has manyyy in and out of the industry, and he also becomes very beloved very quickly because he disarms folks with his charm/wit so easily
That said - for sure, I do not conflate or confuse 'vast network' to mean 'real friends' - but just to say, he knows more people than he explicitly ever verbally admits hahaha but i like this too #mysterious
