TK's Challenges
Grief is tricky.
This quote from has helped me a lot through every season of grief.
For to the extent the emptiness truly remains unfilled, one remains connected to the other person through it.
It is wrong to say that God fills the emptiness.
God in no way fills it but much more leaves it precisely unfilled and thus helps us preserve - even in pain - the authentic relationship.
Furthermore, the more beautiful and full the remembrances, the more difficult the separation.
But gratitude transforms the torment of memory into silent joy. One bears what was lovely in the past not as a thorn but as a precious gift deep within, a hidden treasure of which one can always be certain."
-Dietrich Bonhoeffer
I am not unique here though...
So many of the beautiful ARMY community I've witnessed, helped in part to cultivate, that flourish around me - are going through tough times right now. Grief of all different shapes and sizes - of loved ones, normalcy, stability, safety, margin of any kind. Bracing themselves for all the uncertainty ahead...
To you all, I just want to say - don't rush yourself through it.
But don't deny any and all small beautiful things that bring you joy. You're allowed to hold both the tiny delights and the overwhelming grief at the same time without requiring one to snuff out or diminish the significance of the other. This might be the biggest challenge - finding that balance delicately and wisely.
Enjoy the BTS clip, soak in that morning sunshine, crash out and cry and let yourself feel the weight of all the feels. Turn to the groupchat. Retreat into the dark and solo burrito for a bit. Do what you need to do to be okay.
You've endured a lot to get where you are now. You are stronger than you give yourself credit for and you are so so gentle with others, so please turn some of that gentleness back unto yourself.
I'll be doing all the life things (work, family, blahblahblah, etc.) and translations are an important part of my routine! I will do my utmost to translate especially the most important elements of their lives that they share and do what I can with the fluffy stuff.
Another way some folks like to deal with the hard things is to work on learning more about themselves, cultivating the best parts, pruning the worst bits... if you're interested in a bit of accountability with FITNESS or KOREAN skill building in particular, consider checking out the 30-day challenge. Everything is free.
Thank you so much for your patience and understanding with everything!
Love you all,
