Hi Everyone, it’s Jung Kook.

My heart is so heavy to be writing these words after just meeting you all again for the first time in a long time.

The hat I wore during the rehearsal contained a phrase that hurt a lot of people deeply and made a lot of people uncomfortable - and for this I’m very sorry.

I sincerely acknowledge and take seriously the fact that, due to my lack of awareness in wearing it without fully understanding the historical and political implications of the phrase, I have caused disappointment and pain.

I’m just very sorry.
I won’t make any excuses. I fell short/was lacking, I was careless.
Moving forward, I will think more deeply and act more carefully with everything I do.

I humbly accept all feedback and criticism regarding my mistake.
I promptly got rid of the hat.
Once again I want to say, I’m very sorry.

Here’s the thing…
I’m Korean-American and the chaos in the states is very real. It’s a very sensitive area for so many people. Real people are living with fear of having all sorts of chaotic decisions imposed on their lives, some.. many… facing the threat of having their families separated, basic support for their lives and safety, deeply and wildly compromised, etc.

In general, do I believe artists can leverage their fame for political statements? Absolutely. Is that what happened here? From the DEPTHS of my soul, I say with confidence: ABSOLUTELYYYY NOT.

That said, do we, as fans and consumers of entertainment and public media, have a reasonable right to expect that celebrities should have a basic level of political awareness? Sure. I think this is quite fair actually.

HOWEVER, there is a difference between personally having an opinion/expectation unmet and feeling disappointment VS. jumping to ABSOLUTELY unfound conclusions and perpetuating someone else’s views as aligned or misaligned with your own values. This goes for any famous person - but 100000X especially for JUNG KOOK of BTS ?????

After having been discharged LESS THAN A WEEK AGO, with sleeping issues, his personal concerns as an individual and artist, and a literal stalker… could fans/people PLEASE exercise some grace and reason? Allow the backdrop of DEMONSTRATED thoughtfulness, kindness, and integrity over the past 12 years to calibrate impulsive whims.

DISCLAIMER:
Please note: I’m not interested in debating politics with anyone.

Thoughtful, informed, quality discussion/debate just cannot be conducted online through short posts, in short bursts, with shallow interactions.

Further, not just with me - but with each other - if you’re fighting online with people that don’t know or care for your wellbeing as a whole human being and believe it’s worthwhile to argue over character-limited platforms without relationship, context, and history - all at the expense of your own sanity, focus, and TIME (TIME that could be spent taking other actions to enact actual change) - that is undeniably a waste of your time. I don’t like to see beautiful ARMY/followers/moots turn into trolls.

It would be a waste of mine. I have a lot to accomplish. I don’t ever intend to waste my time and stress is bad for skin.

So if you’d like to unfollow me, truly - I readily open the door for you to leave. But I will not reply/engage with trolls- without exception.
